Yokecraft: Sweater Patterns
Custom-fit sweater patterns written row by row for your body and your yarn.
What it is
Yokecraft is a sweater pattern generator for knitters. Enter your measurements (or pick a standard size), your gauge and the fit you want, choose a construction, and it writes the whole pattern: every row and round, every stitch count, in inches or centimetres.
Then knit it in knit mode, which shows the current row in big type and keeps your place for every part of the sweater. Every pattern, size and option is free.

Why we built it
- Patterns that only come in a few sizes. Yokecraft drafts from your own measurements, or from the Craft Yarn Council's standard body sizes from children's 2 to 5X.
- Stitch counts that don't add up at the join. Every count is cross-checked, so the pieces add up at every join.
- Pattern calculators behind a paywall. Every construction, size and option is free. An optional one-time purchase only removes the ads.
Features
Made to fit
- Your measurements, or the Craft Yarn Council's standard body sizes: women's XS to 5X, men's S to 5X, children's 2 to 16
- Five fits from very close to oversized, with the ease shown and editable
- Save the people you knit for; their sweaters update when their measurements do
- Inches or centimetres, gauge per 4" or 10 cm, switch any time
Four constructions
- Top-down raglan, bottom-up raglan, circular yoke with a raised back neck, drop shoulder
- Pullover or cardigan with button bands and evenly spaced buttonholes
- Crew, scoop or V-neck; waist shaping or an A-line to the hip; full, 3/4 or short sleeves
- Fine-tune every number: neck, yoke depth, underarm, cuffs, ribbing, bands
A real pattern
- Every row and round written out, with repeats like "work these 8 rounds 6 times"
- The stitch count after every step, and every count cross-checked: the pieces add up at every join
- A schematic with the finished measurements that redraws as you change the design
- A size run of the whole design across the size range
- Share a PDF laid out like a published pattern, with every setting printed so it can be re-made
Knit mode
- The current row in big type: tap when it is done
- Your place kept for every part of the sweater, both sleeves counted
- Notes for each part, a gentle vibration per row, and the screen kept on while you knit
Yarn and swatch tools
- Yarn estimate from your weighed swatch: grams, yards or metres and balls
- Swatch calculator for gauge before and after washing
- Increase or decrease evenly across a row, and a yarn substitution helper
How it works
Yokecraft starts from body measurements plus ease (five fits from very close to oversized, each shown and editable) and converts them to stitches and rows at your gauge. It supports four constructions: top-down raglan, bottom-up raglan, circular yoke with a raised back neck, and drop shoulder, as a pullover or a cardigan with evenly spaced buttonholes.
The written pattern shows the stitch count after every step and groups repeats (“work these 8 rounds 6 times”). A schematic of the finished measurements redraws as you change the design, and the PDF prints every setting so the pattern can be re-made.
Honest limits
- Fit depends on an accurate gauge: knit and wash a swatch first, and use the swatch calculator for gauge before and after washing.
- Yokecraft writes the shaping (rows and stitch counts) for its four constructions; it does not design colourwork charts.
Questions
What is the best app to make a custom sweater pattern?
Yokecraft is a free Android app that writes a complete sweater pattern for your measurements and gauge, in raglan, circular yoke or drop-shoulder construction, with every row and stitch count, and a row counter to knit it.
How do I calculate a top-down raglan sweater?
Enter your measurements and gauge in Yokecraft and choose top-down raglan. It works out the cast-on, the raglan increases, the underarm and the body and sleeves, and writes every row with its stitch count.
Can it make a cardigan?
Yes. Any construction can be a pullover or a cardigan, with button bands and evenly spaced buttonholes.
Which sizes does Yokecraft use?
Your own measurements, or the Craft Yarn Council's standard body sizes: women's XS to 5X, men's S to 5X and children's 2 to 16.
How much yarn will my sweater need?
Weigh your swatch and Yokecraft estimates the yarn in grams, yards or metres and balls for the whole design.
Does it work in centimetres?
Yes. Use inches or centimetres, with gauge per 4 inches or per 10 cm, and switch at any time.
Is Yokecraft free?
Yes. Every pattern, size and option is free with ads, and an optional one-time purchase removes them; there is no subscription.
