3D printer filament inventory: what's left on every spool, print costs and drying.

What it is

Spoolwise is a 3D printer filament tracker for Android. It keeps every spool on your shelf with its colour, material, brand, location and how much filament is left, and it works out what each print cost.

Weigh a spool on a kitchen scale and Spoolwise subtracts the empty spool to correct what's left. It also tells you when moisture-hungry spools need drying. It is free, with no spool limit, no account and no subscription.

Why we built it

  • Spool limits and subscriptions. Spoolwise has no spool limit and nothing behind a paywall.
  • Guessing what's left on a spool. Weigh it: empty-spool weights for plastic, cardboard and refill spools are built in, or weigh your own.
  • Cloud logins that break. Everything stays on your phone, backs up to one file, and exports to CSV.

Features

Your shelf

  • Every spool with its colour, material, brand, location and how much is left
  • Search by colour, brand, label code or location; filter by material or "running low"
  • Sort by most recently used, colour, material or what's left
  • Add a multipack in one go: four identical spools, four label codes

How much is left, really

  • Put the spool on a kitchen scale: Spoolwise takes off the empty spool and corrects what's left
  • Empty-spool weights for plastic, cardboard and refill spools, or weigh your own
  • Remaining shown in grams, percent and metres (from the material's density and diameter)
  • Run-out forecast from how fast you've been using it

Print log and cost

  • Log a print with the grams or metres your slicer shows; it comes off the spool
  • Multi-colour or split prints across several spools
  • Cost per print from what you paid per spool, plus electricity per printer if you like
  • Edit or delete a print and the filament goes back on the spool
  • Success or failed, print time, notes, "print it again"

Drying

  • Drying temperature and time for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon, PC, PVA and more
  • Log drying runs; see days since the last one and when moisture-hungry materials need another
  • Warns before drying a cardboard spool too hot

Labels and lists

  • Printable QR labels on Avery 5160 (Letter) or L7160 (A4) sticker sheets
  • A short code on every spool (S-0042) to find it again in seconds
  • A printable inventory list of the whole shelf

Stats

  • Filament used per month, by material and by colour
  • Spent on prints, cost per print, success rate, value of what's on the shelf

How it works

Remaining filament is the scale weight minus the empty spool, shown in grams, percent and metres; metres come from the material's density and the filament diameter. Each print you log comes off its spool, and its cost is calculated from what you paid per spool, with optional electricity per printer.

Densities and drying times are typical values from filament makers. Your spool's label always wins.

Honest limits

  • Spoolwise doesn't connect to printers or slicers; you enter the grams or metres your slicer shows.
  • Typical densities and drying times vary by brand; check the spool label.

Questions

What is the best app to track 3D printer filament?

Spoolwise is a free Android filament inventory app with no spool limit: it tracks what's left on every spool, logs prints with their cost, and reminds you to dry moisture-hungry materials.

How do I know how much filament is left on a spool?

Weigh the spool on a kitchen scale. Spoolwise subtracts the empty-spool weight (plastic, cardboard or refill, or your own) and shows what's left in grams, percent and metres.

How much did my 3D print cost?

Log the grams or metres your slicer shows; Spoolwise calculates the cost from the price of the spool, plus electricity per printer if you add it.

At what temperature should I dry PETG or nylon?

Spoolwise lists typical drying temperatures and times for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon, PC, PVA and more, and warns before drying a cardboard spool too hot. Always check your spool's label.

Can I print labels for my spools?

Yes. Spoolwise prints QR labels on Avery 5160 (Letter) or L7160 (A4) sticker sheets, with a short code on each spool.

Is Spoolwise free?

Yes. Spoolwise is free and ad-supported, with no account, no subscription and no spool limit.
