Sloper Studio: Sewing Patterns
Made-to-measure sewing patterns from your measurements, printed at true size.
Also in: Español · Français · Italiano · Deutsch
What it is
Sloper Studio drafts sewing patterns to your own measurements: a fitted bodice and sleeve, straight and A-line skirts, circle skirts, trousers and a knit T-shirt. Every pattern checks its own seams before you cut.
Print it at true size on home paper with test squares on every page, send an A0 file to a copy shop, or project it straight onto your fabric. Every block, size and print option is free.

Why we built it
- Standard sizes that don't fit. Patterns are drafted from your measurements, with close, standard or relaxed fit and every ease editable.
- Mysterious measurement errors. Problems are named in plain words, such as “back width is 49% of the bust; it is usually 34–44%”.
- Pieces that don't sew together. Every draft measures itself: seams that join are the same length, darts are true, and curves meet square at the joins.
Features
Drafted to your body
- Bodice with bust and waist darts, after Winifred Aldrich's close-fitting block, and a set-in sleeve drafted to its armhole
- Straight skirt with optional A-line flare; quarter, half or full circle skirts in as many panels as your fabric needs
- Straight-leg trousers, slim, straight or wide, cropped or full length; give your crotch length and the back crotch is fitted to it
- Dartless knit T-shirt with a neckband sized for stretch
- Close, standard or relaxed fit, with every ease editable; move the bust dart to the side seam
Measure once
- Keep the measurements of everyone you sew for, in inches (to the ⅛") or centimetres
- A figure shows where the tape goes for each measurement, one step at a time
- Problems are named, never a mystery: "back width is 49% of the bust; it is usually 34–44%"
- Start from a standard size and replace the numbers as you measure
Every pattern checks itself
- Seams that sew together are the same length, darts are true, curves meet square at the joins
- Bust, waist and hip ease measured on the actual pieces
- Sleeve cap ease within its range, notches matching bodice and sleeve
- Finished measurements next to your body measurements
Print, project, cut
- Tiled PDF for US Letter or A4, with a 1" and 5 cm test square on every page, overlap guides and an assembly map
- A0 PDF for a copy shop
- Projector mode: bright lines on black, calibrated once, mirrored for the second of a pair
- Seam allowance on or off, notches, grainlines, "place on fold" and labels on every piece
- Cutting layout on 45" or 60" fabric with the yardage to buy
- Sewing order as a checklist, and notes for each project
How it works
The bodice block follows Winifred Aldrich's close-fitting block, with bust and waist darts, and the sleeve is drafted to the bodice's own armhole. Skirts, circle skirts (in as many panels as your fabric needs), straight-leg trousers with the back crotch fitted to your crotch length, and a dartless knit T-shirt with a stretch-sized neckband complete the set.
Each draft runs its own checks: seam pairs of equal length, true darts, square joins, the ease at bust, waist and hip measured on the actual pieces, sleeve-cap ease and matching notches. Finished measurements are shown next to your body measurements.
Honest limits
- A draft is a starting point, not a guarantee of fit. Sew a test garment (a toile) before cutting your good fabric.
- Version 1 covers foundation blocks; it is not a library of designer styles.
Questions
What is the best app to make sewing patterns from my measurements?
Sloper Studio is a free Android app that drafts made-to-measure patterns (bodice and sleeve, skirts, circle skirts, trousers and a knit T-shirt) from your measurements, checks the pieces, and prints them at true size.
How do I print a sewing pattern at the right size?
Print the tiled PDF at 100% (actual size) and measure the 1-inch and 5 cm test square on any page before you tape the sheets together. Sloper Studio adds overlap guides and an assembly map.
Can I project a sewing pattern onto fabric?
Yes. Projector mode shows bright lines on black, calibrated once, and can mirror the piece for the second of a pair.
What is a sloper or basic block?
A sloper (or block) is a close-fitting basic pattern drafted to one person's measurements, used as the base for other designs. Sloper Studio drafts the bodice, sleeve, skirt and trouser blocks for you.
How do I draft a circle skirt?
Enter your waist and the skirt length; Sloper Studio drafts a quarter, half or full circle skirt in as many panels as your fabric width needs, with a cutting layout and the yardage to buy.
Does it work in centimetres?
Yes. Measurements in inches (to the eighth of an inch) or centimetres; every language other than English uses centimetres by default.
Is Sloper Studio free?
Yes. Every block, size and print option is free with ads, and an optional one-time purchase removes them.
