Hatchwise: Egg Hatch Tracker
Egg incubation tracker: hatch countdown, candling and lockdown reminders.

What it is
Hatchwise is an egg incubation tracker for backyard keepers. Start a batch and it counts the days to hatch, tells you exactly what to do today, reminds you to turn, candle and lock down, and keeps a record of every egg.
It knows the schedule for 11 species, from chickens (21 days, lockdown on day 18) to Muscovy ducks (35 days) and Coturnix quail (17 days), and checks whether your humidity is right from the eggs' weight loss. It is free, needs no account and works offline.

Why we built it
- Reminders that only say “Day 18”. Hatchwise reminders say what to do: turn now, candle today, lockdown tomorrow. Turning reminders stop by themselves at lockdown.
- Guessing at humidity. Weigh your eggs a few times and Hatchwise charts the weight loss against the target for your bird, then tells you whether to raise or lower the humidity.
- Records lost with a phone. Back up every hatch, with photos, to one file and restore it on a new phone. No account is needed.

Reminders that tell you what to do
- Turning reminders at the times you choose, which stop by themselves at lockdown

- Hatch rate, fertility and hatch-of-fertile for every batch
Is your humidity right?
- Weigh your eggs a few times: Hatchwise charts the weight loss against the target for your bird and tells you whether to raise or lower the humidity
- Log temperature and humidity and see them charted against the target band
- °F or °C, grams or ounces
Hatch day
- Hatch-day mode: tap each egg when it pips and again when the chick is out, with zip times
- Hatch running late? Add a day and every reminder moves with it
- Your own hatch and lockdown days for late breeds or any other bird

11 species with the right numbers
Chicken (21 days, lockdown day 18), duck, Muscovy (35 days), goose, turkey, Coturnix quail (17 days), Bobwhite quail (23 days), guinea fowl, pheasant, peafowl and chukar. Schedules and targets follow university extension guidance, with waterfowl cooling and misting tips.
How it works
Each batch follows the schedule for its species: incubation length, lockdown day, candling days, and the temperature, humidity and turning for each stage. The schedules and targets follow university extension guidance, with cooling and misting tips for waterfowl; you can set your own hatch and lockdown days for late breeds or other birds.
Candling records are kept egg by egg (developing, clear, stopped or hatched), so every batch ends with its hatch rate, fertility and hatch-of-fertile figures.
Honest limits
- Schedules and targets are a starting point; incubators and breeds vary, and your incubator's own manual should guide its settings.
- Hatchwise does not connect to incubators or sensors; temperature and humidity are logged by hand.
Questions
What is the best app for tracking egg incubation?
Hatchwise is a free Android incubation tracker that counts down to hatch day, reminds you to turn, candle and lock down, and records every egg. It covers 11 species and works offline without an account.
When is lockdown for chicken eggs?
For chicken eggs, lockdown is on day 18 of a 21-day incubation: stop turning, raise the humidity and keep the incubator closed until the hatch. Hatchwise reminds you the day before.
When should I candle eggs?
Hatchwise schedules candling for the days used for each species and shows an illustrated guide of what a developing, clear or stopped egg looks like on those days, so you know which eggs to remove.
How do I know if my incubator humidity is right?
Weigh the eggs a few times during incubation. Hatchwise compares their weight loss with the target for your species and tells you whether to raise or lower the humidity.
How long do duck, goose and quail eggs take to hatch?
Hatchwise has the schedules built in: for example Coturnix quail about 17 days, Bobwhite quail 23 days, chickens 21 days and Muscovy ducks 35 days, with lockdown days for each.
My hatch is late. What should I do?
Add a day to the batch and every reminder moves with it. Hatchwise's hatch-day mode logs pip and zip times for each egg.
Is Hatchwise free?
Yes. Hatchwise is free and ad-supported, with no account and no subscription.
