Features

Ideal for DIY tilers, renovators and tradespeople pricing and ordering a job. Buy the right number of boxes the first time and keep a sensible amount of spares.

  • Floor or wall tiling
  • Works in metric (m², cm tiles) or imperial (sq ft, inch tiles)
  • Adjustable waste allowance for cuts and breakage
  • Tiles needed and boxes needed
  • 100% offline — no internet, no account, no data collected

How it works

The number of tiles is the area to tile divided by the area of one tile, increased by the waste percentage (10% by default) and rounded up. Boxes are the tiles divided by the tiles per box, rounded up.

Honest limits

  • Complex layouts (diagonal, herringbone, many cuts) need a larger waste allowance; adjust the percentage.

Questions

How many tiles do I need?

Divide the area by the area of one tile and add a waste allowance for cuts. Tile Calculator uses 10% by default and rounds up to whole tiles and boxes.

How much extra tile should I buy?

10% is a common allowance for straight layouts, and more for diagonal or herringbone layouts. The waste percentage is adjustable.
