Paint Calculator works out how much paint to buy for a room or a wall. Enter the room's length, width and wall height and the number of coats, subtract doors and windows, add the ceiling if you are painting it, and it gives you the litres or gallons and the number of cans.

How it works
The paintable area is the wall area (plus the ceiling if included) minus doors and windows. That area times the number of coats, divided by your paint's coverage rate, gives the volume of paint, which is rounded up to whole cans of the size you set.

- Coverage varies by paint and surface; use the rate printed on your tin for the best estimate.
Questions
How much paint do I need for a room?
Work out the wall area, subtract doors and windows, multiply by the number of coats and divide by the paint's coverage rate. Paint Calculator does this for you and rounds up to whole cans.
How many coats of paint should I plan for?
Two coats is the usual plan for a colour change or new plaster; set the number of coats in the app and it multiplies the paint needed.
